This time when we went out to take pictures, we chose a different topic. I decided on Architecture and took photos at my library. This is my best picture: Aperture: 3.4 Shutter Speed: 1/80 ISO: 80 These are my next five best pictures: Summary: During this assignment, I learned how to adjust the ISO alongside the Aperture and Shutter Speed. I now know how to use it to change the lighting based on the other settings and the lighting of the room. I also played around in photoshop to get rid of certain things in my best picture like glares.

For this assignment, we had to take a picture of ourselves and then use photoshop to edit it. We made new layers and change the color until it was a pop art picture with four boxes of different colors. Here is my wok: I learned how to make new layers and copy and paste in photoshop. I also learned how to change the size of the canvas.
For my second shooting assignment, I decided to do the topic of architecture. I hope to get better at displaying different lines and shapes that compliment and contrast with each other. These are some of the ideas of inspiration I've found online: For this assignment, we had to go out and take pictures of our topic. I chose Animals and took photos of my cats. This is my best photo: Aperture: 3.4 Shutter Speed: 1/400 ISO: 1600 Here are my next five best photos: Summary: I learned that I need to work on lighting. In many of my pictures, the subject was really dark because of the way the sun came in the room. I need to use my ISO and other camera settings more often to fix this. Another issue was that a lot of my pictures turned out blurry. I need to focus the camera and work on the shutter speed to fix that. What went well was how cute my cats posed for the photos.
For my first photography shooting assignment, I've chosen the subject of animals. I want to get better at portraying the personalities of animals and showing what they do during the day. Here are some pictures that I found online and will be using as inspirations: These images show a line of pens in rainbow order. I was trying to accomplish showing the difference between a slow shutter speed (#1) that has a motion blur and a fast shutter speed (#4) that almost has a freeze. To do this, I moved my camera over the pens from left to right, keeping my movements at the same speed as much as possible. For each picture, I increased the shutter speed. For example, #1 had a slow shutter speed of 1/4, but #4 had a faster shutter speed of 1/30. Every time the shutter speed increased, the picture got sharper. These images show a pom pom and boxing glove key chain on my backpack. It is hard to tell in the pictures, but I was trying to accomplish changing the depth of field of the images by making the boxing glove less blurry. To do this, I took the same picture four times, but each time I changed the aperture. #1 had an aperture of 3.4, which means there will be a smaller depth of field, so the background and/or foreground will be more blurry. For image #4, the aperture was 8.0, meaning the depth of field will be larger and the background and/or foreground will be in sharper focus. Fast Shutter Speed: There is less light and the image is frozen ("stopped action")
Slow Shutter Speed: More light comes in and it gives a sense of motion ("motion blur") Large Aperture (large opening): More light passes through and there is a shorter depth of field, so the background/foreground are blurrier Small Aperture (small opening): Less light passes through the the depth of field is longer, so the background/foreground is sharper I learned that composition is a way in which we frame our pictures. Whether it's filling our frame with patterns or texture (or more), composition allows us to make use of different elements to add interest to the pictures.
For this assignment, we had to take notes about the different elements of photography, such as lines, rule of thirds, patterns, and more. We then went around the school and took pictures based on these elements. My name is Erin Melcher and I am a sophomore at Saline High School. I play lacrosse and basketball and I like to go on bike rides. I enjoy reading and listening to music. I like taking pictures on vacation, especially of landscapes and nature. I hope to learn how to edit and take better photos through this class.
